Gutter Cleaning Costs

Gutter Cleaning Prices – How are Gutter Cleaning Prices Determined?

Having your gutters cleaned on a regular basis is an important home maintenance task.  If your gutter system is not working properly, rainwater can cause a number of issues for your home that are often times very expensive to remedy.  Preventing these problems from occurring is far more cost effective than dealing with them once they are a problem.  So what is the cost of having your gutter system cleaned by a professional?  How do professional gutter cleaners determine their gutter cleaning prices?  There are a number of different factors that will determine the price you will pay to have your rain gutters cleaned.

Square Footage – The size of your home is one of the first components in determining the price of gutter cleaning.  The larger your home, the more time the job will take, and thus the more it will cost.

Style – Whether your home is a ranch, a two-story, a three-story, etc. does make a difference in gutter cleaning pricing.  Taller homes require more time and more skill with ladders and ropes.

Pitch of the Roof – How steep your roof is is another important factor in determining the price of gutter cleaning.  A flatter roof that can be walked on will be less expensive than a steep roof that requires the person cleaning the gutters to secure themselves with ropes and harnesses.  Again you are looking at more time and more skill with ladders and ropes.

Roofing Material – What type of shingles is your roof made of?  Composition shingles, shake shingles, tile, ceramic, concrete, or slate?  There are many instances in which a roof cannot be walked on because of the roofing material.  A house that has a roof that can be easily walked on will be priced lower than a roof that requires you to clean the gutters from a ladder.  Cleaning the gutters from a ladder can take significantly more time and does require a level of skill in using a ladder.

Underground Drains – The testing and cleaning of underground drains will typically take more time and will increase the price of your gutter cleaning.

Repairs  - Often times gutter system repairs can be taken care of at the time of the cleaning.  Items such as sealing the gutter seams, reattaching brackets that have come away from the house, and other types of repairs will increase the cost of gutter cleaning.

Amount of Debris – Houses that have not had the gutters cleaned on a regular basis may have significantly more debris and blockage than a house that is on a gutter cleaning maintenance plan.  Excess debris and blockage will increase the length of time the job will take and may increase the price of gutter cleaning.  Some professional gutter cleaners actually offer a discount to customers that have their gutters cleaned on a regular basis, thus decreasing the cost of gutter cleaning.

Commercial vs. Residential  - The cost of a commercial gutter cleaning project may be higher due to many of the reasons listed above.

Each of these components will be looked at when determining the cost of your gutter cleaning.  Professional gutter cleaners should also carry adequate insurance to protect not only themselves and their employees, but you the customer.  Many professional gutter cleaning companies actually have their prices on their websites.  Online gutter cleaning prices are a good guideline for figuring out how much your gutter cleaning project will cost.  You do have to realize that these prices are a guideline and that there are unforeseen circumstances that may affect the cost of your project.  A professional gutter cleaner should let you know if there is a significant increase in the cost of your job before they do the work.  However, having this work done on a regular basis will be much more cost effective in the long run than dealing with a flooded basement, structural damage or other issues that are the result of a faulty gutter system.

Cleaninggutter.net prices are based on the number of stories, above ground square feet of the home, pitch of the roof, and roofing materials.  Gutter cleaning prices are for standard asphalt shingle roofs or shake shingles.

They do not include tile roofs (ceramic, concrete, slate, etc.) that may need to be cleaned strictly from a ladder, depending on the pitch of the roof, which take considerably longer and are more dangerous. We do walk on Tile roofs by using the proper technique. As a rule of thumb you can add about $40 for tile roof gutter cleanings but exact amounts will be established once on site. We have the training to walk on tile, wood shake shingle and many other roof types with out harming them!

*Garage gutters are a separate charge (usually $20-30), so make sure you specify whether you want yours cleaned or not.

*Homes that haven’t had the gutters cleaned in years and are particularly full of mud/dirt/plants, etc. may be more (usually $30). The process can take a lot longer.

*We can also test UNDERGROUND downspout drains for an additional $50 when done at the same time we are cleaning gutters.

* Roof cleaning of debris $20-40 or  Pressure washing roof additional $60 if done at the same time we are cleaning gutters.

* Sealing all gutter seams $40-60. At the time we are cleaning the gutters.

*Commercial gutter cleaning will require actual on-site estimates.  Please email me the property address so we can provide a complete estimate.
